Weekend Preview (Part 2) – Sunday 6th May

News/events

The 1st XI begin their Derek Kay Cup campaign on Sunday, with a trip to Unsworth CC (Pole Lane, Bury BL9 8QL). The hosts sit in Division 1B of the GMCL structure and, being in a Division consisting of 11 teams, were the “odd man out” in Week 1. They were then crushed by 9 wickets at Monton last weekend, who are the early pace-setters at that level. This 50 overs per side contest begins at 1pm, with Adam Hawley’s team looking to progress to the last 16 of the competition.

Back home, with a 2pm start (40 overs per side) it’s Derby Day in the League for the 3rd XI, as Denton West make the short trip to Sycamore Park. This marks the start of 3 successive Derby weekends between the Clubs, as our 2nd XI and then 1st XI make the opposite journey across town on the following 2 Saturdays (12th & 19th May).  The form guide for Sunday is sketchy to say the least, as a total of 2 matches have been played in this Division so far, one of those being our comfortable win over Friarmere CC a fortnight ago, meaning that we are top of the fledgling table. But, as we all know anyway, what does form matter when there are local bragging rights at stake?!
