WEEKEND PREVIEW (PART 1) – SATURDAY 4TH MAY

News/events

Both the 1st & 2nd XI’s will be hoping for a return to action on Saturday, after the enforced inactivity caused by last weekend’s April showers or, more accurately, deluges.

The 1st XI are once again scheduled to face newly-promoted opposition, when they travel to Monton CC (Welbeck Rd, M30 9EH) for a 1pm start. Last season’s Division 1B runners-up began their Premier League campaign with a high scoring 36-run defeat at home to Roe Green – their 229 all out being the highest score in the Division on the opening day with the exception, alas, of their opponents. Like everyone else in the top flight, they suffered a washout on Matchday 2. Hopefully, we will finally get to see our overseas professional, Neil Hornbuckle, in action, and those who injured various parts of their hands in our win at Flixton will hopefully have benefitted from the unplanned week’s break.

Back at Sycamore Park, the 2nd XI welcome Glodwick (1.30pm start). Again, it was abandonments all round last weekend, so the form guide is sketchy, to say the least. While we were proving too strong for Dukinfield on Easter Saturday, the team originally named Glodwick Wesleyan Methodist Cricket Club were beaten by 3 wickets in something of an Oldham-derby at Werneth. Danny Hall will be hoping to still be unbeaten as 2019 Captain come Saturday night!

Good luck to both our teams – home or away, the lads would love to have your support!
