We take a break from the 20-over competition on Friday night, so our two-part preview of the weekend begins with a look ahead to Saturday’s League action.
The table-topping 1st XI travel to Woodhouses CC (Belfields, Medlock Road, M35 9NG) for a 1pm start, where Adam Hawley’s men will look to extended their unbeaten run. After a slow start to the season, the hosts have won their last 2 games – a 10 wicket beating of Royton being followed up by an eye-catching 29 run victory over back-to-back League Champions Flixton last Saturday. Like ourselves, they are safely through to Round 2 of the Derek Kay Cup, but have yet to find success in the 20-over format – we visit Belfields again on June 21st for our final match in Pool 3 of that particular competition. Let us hope that we start “Flaming June” in a blaze of glory on Saturday afternoon.
Back at Sycamore Park, the 2nd XI have the mouth-watering prospect of a visit from League leaders Saddleworth CC at 1.30pm. The Calf Lane outfit have enjoyed a near-perfect start to the League campaign, winning 5 of their opening 6 games with a degree of comfort – only the weather getting the better of them, as it did everyone else, on Matchday 2. Danny Hall and his team will be keen to close the 7 point gap that currently separates us in the League table.
Good luck to both our teams on Saturday – as always, home or away, the lads would love to have your support!
