WEEKEND PREVIEW 25TH – 27TH MAY

News/events

Firstly, an important reminder that tomorrow (Friday) night’s GMCL20 fixture versus Denton Daredevils (6pm start) is now a HOME fixture for Kyle O’Reilly’s Saints, as they look to build on last Friday’s comfortable win over Ashton Black Knights. A Whit Friday Brass Band contest is the unusual reason for the Daredevils surrendering home advantage – let’s hope the Saints are blowing their own trumpet later in the evening.

Saturday sees arguably the biggest game of the season to date for Adam Hawley’s 1st XI, as they welcome League leaders Clifton to Sycamore Park. The visitors have dealt mainly in comfortable victories thus far, the only blot on their League record being a, perhaps surprisingly, heavy defeat at Woodbank in Week 3. Adam’s team have won their last 5 in League & Cups, so a good contest is in prospect from 1pm (50 overs per side).

The 2nd XI travel to Greenfield CC (Ladhill Lane, Greenfield, Oldham – Post Code for Sat Nav OL3 7JW) for a 1.30pm start (45 overs per side). Both teams are part of a quintet on 17 points and, with 6 of the top 7 in the table going head-to-head on Saturday, a win is crucial to keep pace with the leaders. Archie’s Army have the only 100% record in their Division in May – hopefully they will complete the perfect month this weekend.

Sunday sees a return to action for the 3rd XI, with the Oddfellows from Friarmere CC the visitors to Sycamore Park for the second time this season, after forfeiting home advantage for the meeting in April. A repeat of the result on that occasion would be most welcome in this, only the third League game of the season for both teams. Play starts at 2pm (40 overs per side).
