Weekend Preview (Part 1) – Saturday 5th May

News/events

The 1st XI start their weekend with a trip up the M66 to newly-promoted Edgworth CC (Bolton Road, Bolton BL7 0AP). They, like ourselves, have already been chased down at home by Greenmount, but found success in the “Woods” – in their case Woodhouses, in our case, Woodbank. They boast an Under 19’s World Cup winner from 2014 in their ranks, in the shape of South African batsman-wicketkeeper Clyde Fortuin, who returns for 2018 after scoring an impressive 972 runs last Summer. Let’s hope that fortune favours Adam Hawley’s team on Saturday afternoon from 1.00pm

Back at HQ, Archie Moore’s 2nd XI begin a trilogy of Tameside tussles as they welcome Dukinfield to Sycamore Park for a 1.30pm start. Both sides still seek their first League win of the season – although our washout at Glodwick last weekend was rather more successful than Duki’s visit there in Week 1, where they made just 52 in reply to 113. Last Saturday (home to Werneth), they made a more respectable 148, but that was still 50 runs shy of the visitors’ tally before, like ourselves, finding Cup success on Sunday when chasing a sub-100 target.

The match ball for this match is kindly sponsored by the “Top” Astley Arms, 1 Chapel Hill, Dukinfield, the home of an excellent Sunday Carvery, as well as live music every Saturday night – search “Top Astley Arms” on Facebook for up-to-date news of forthcoming artists!
