WEEKEND PREVIEW (PART 2) – SUNDAY 19TH MAY

News/events

Sunday sees something completely different for Adam Hawley’s 1st XI – even the Lancashire Cricket Foundation’s own website tells us that “the Lancashire Knockout Cup provides clubs with the opportunity to play on grounds from other leagues and compete against different opposition” – when they travel to Vernon Carus CC (Factory Lane, Penwortham PR1 9SN) for the 1st round of the LCF KO Cup. It’s a 1.00pm start for this 45 overs per side contest, and we are running a coach from the Club, leaving at 10.45am prompt – return fare just £7.50 for adults & £5 for under 16’s. Contact Ben Tighe on 07985 254962 to check last-minute availability.

The Lancastrians ply their trade in the Premier Division of the Palace Shield Competition, alongside the likes of Preston, Morecambe and Lancaster. Like our own League, the season started on Easter Saturday, and is 4 games in. Our hosts’ sole win came on the opening day, and they sit 8th out of 12, just 3 points off the foot of the table. However, they will be used to the format, as 45 overs is the norm in their League.

The winners on Sunday will face a trip to Bradshaw or Padiham in the last 32 of the competition – let us hope we find ourselves heading North again on June 2nd!
