WEEKEND PREVIEW (PART 1) – SATURDAY 18TH MAY

News/events

We’ll look ahead to Sunday’s big Cup tie at Vernon Carus separately but, 24 hours before that, Adam Hawley’s 1st XI will have their attention firmly focused on the top-of-the table clash at Roe Green CC, Greenleach Lane, Worsley M28 2QW (Saturday, 1pm).

As Premier Division leaders, we head up the East Lancs Road  in rather better shape than our last visit on the final day of last season, when our place in the Division was under threat. As it goes, that bullet was safely dodged, and a repeat on Saturday would not only strengthen our position at the top of the table, but also inflict a first League defeat of 2019 on the team just one point behind us at present. Their 3 comfortable wins to date – the game against Prestwich fell victim to the weather – have come against Monton, Woodhouses and Royton, who are the only 3 teams yet to win this season. Batting first on each occasion, runs have not been hard to come by at all, their lowest score being 232, while they posted 250-plus in the other 2 matches. Let us hope our boys give them their sternest test yet.

Back at HQ, also on Saturday,  Oldham are the visitors for a 1.30pm start. They come to Sycamore Park on the back of 2 defeats, most recently to joint-leaders (with us!) Saddleworth, where they scored rather more than the 57 all out they managed at Werneth seven days previously. Their sole win to date came on the opening day when, just like ourseleves last week, they found success up at Heywood.  You can be sure that Danny Hall and his troops will be striving to continue their impressive start to the season in front of the home support.

Good luck to both our teams on Saturday – as always, home or away, the lads would love to have your support!
